Chromatic integration of concrete with SC Pigments at the Alcántara Bridge, Cáceres.

The construction of the new Alcántara Bridge, in the province of Cáceres, represents an intervention of great significance both from an infrastructural and a landscape perspective. This new road infrastructure makes it possible to divert traffic, especially heavy traffic, away from the historic Roman bridge of Alcántara, contributing to improved road safety and to the preservation of one of the most emblematic monuments of Roman heritage in Spain.

The new bridge, with an approximate length of 267 metres, is integrated into a natural and cultural environment of high value, shaped by the mountainous topography and the landscape of the Tagus River. For this reason, the project paid special attention to the visual integration of the structure, particularly in the plinths and concrete structural elements in direct contact with the surroundings.

To achieve appropriate chromatic harmonisation with the landscape, the concrete plinths were integrally pigmented through the use of SC Pigments from Serra Ciments. This solution made it possible to adjust the colour of the concrete to the natural tones of the rock and the terrain, reducing the visual impact of the infrastructure and enhancing its integration into the mountainous environment.
