The Hospedería Conventual de Alcántara is a rehabilitation project that blends historical value with contemporary architecture.

Originally a 15th-century convent, the building has been transformed into a four-star hotel, preserving its original structure and essence. The renovation project was carried out by architects Antonio Álvarez-Cienfuegos Rubio and Emilio Delgado Martos from Estudio Hago.

To integrate the new constructions with the historical surroundings, brown pigments from Serra Ciments® were used for the pigmentation of concrete and mortar. These pigments provided earthy tones that complement the convent’s original aesthetic, ensuring a visually coherent transition between the old structures and the modern extensions.

The restoration included the conservation of significant architectural elements, such as the porticoed cloister and the church dome, which now houses a museum featuring the original machinery from the former flour mill that operated in the building during the 20th century.

This project exemplifies how architecture can balance heritage preservation with modern needs, creating a space that honors its past while offering contemporary functionality and comfort.
