Paving with pigmented concrete in Parc del Mas Mel

Parc del Mas Mel (Calafell, Tarragona) is a 22,000 m² green space designed by the architecture firm Batlleiroig. The park features walkable areas paved with exposed aggregate and pigmented concrete, using pigments supplied by SC Pigments.

The pavement was executed using exposed aggregate concrete, a technique that reveals the surface aggregates to achieve a non-slip texture and natural aesthetic, and integrally pigmented with Serra Ciments’ Pardo 40 pigment. A low dosage was used to create a soft, earthy tone that blends visually with the surrounding greenery of the park.

The design of Parc del Mas Mel incorporates green infrastructure based on nature-based water management solutions. Through the use of retention basins and natural drainage, the park functions as an urban sponge, helping to prevent flooding in the area.

The existing trees were preserved, and more than 11,000 native trees, shrubs, and plant species were added, reinforcing the park’s commitment to biodiversity and sustainability.
